Lap Band Revision Surgery, Cypress TX
The lap band or gastric band surgery is a minimally invasive surgery described as an adjustable silicone band placed around the upper portion of the stomach with the goal of restricting portions. The simplicity of this concept was an attractive feature and contributed to the rapid rise in popularity in the early part of the decade. However, about 50 percent of lap band patients require revision surgery after five years including removal. As a result, the lap band has drastically diminished in popularity and now has been surpassed by the sleeve gastrectomy due to its predictable higher success rate and minimal long term complication rate.

Consideration in a Lap Band Revision in Cypress, TX?
During your initial consultation, Dr. Bonnor will review your current medical record and discuss your weight loss goals. Further evaluation of the current anatomy will require an upper GI and upper endoscopy. Additionally, some patients may require an ultrasound and perioperative anticoagulation due to high BMI.
We typically do not use drains in the post-op period and do not use upper GI evaluation unless it's a revision to a gastric bypass. We expect to return to work in 10 to 14 days and mild exercise in three weeks.
